Launch of the design for the new Canadian Canoe Museum

Lisa Rochon was a jury member on the AMD Open Architecture Challenge, an open, international competition organized by Architects for Humanity (Spring 2008)

• For the past year Architecture for Humanity has been hosting an international open design competition to develop technology facilities for three local NGOs located in Ecuador, Kenya and Nepal. The submission period has ended and 260 designs from around the world have now been received.

• Lisa is helping to review the Slums Information Development and Resource Centers (SIDAREC) design challenge in Nairobi, Kenya. The challenge is to empower the youth of Mukuru Kwa Njenga, an informal slum settlement of 250,000, to connect with other youth and create positive change in their community by building a technology media lab and library.

• SIDAREC already runs 99.9 Ghetto FM, a youth radio station, and is looking to expand its reach across Nairobi.

Lisa Rochon has once again been nominated for a National Newspaper Award in the Arts and Entertainment category for stories on architecture

• Citation of Merit, 2007. This is the third straight year that Lisa has been nominated for an NNA; she won the award on both previous occasions.

• This year The Globe and Mail has earned 15 nominations, receiving the highest number among Canadian news organizations.

Lisa Rochon is the design consultant for the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law expansion project

• The design competition for the expansion project was won by Hariri Pontarini Architects, with Siamak Hariri as lead architect.

Lisa Rochon has contributed a major essay to New York's Municipal Art Society's collection of essays on Jane Jacobs

• The Municipal Art Society (MAS) of New York, through sponsorship from the Rockefeller Foundation, has launched an exhibition, book and city-wide programming to highlight the relevance of activist and author Jane Jacobs.

• MAS will publish "Block by Block: Jane Jacobs and the Future of New York," a collection of essays that elaborate on Jacobs's relevance today.

• The publication will include a major essay by Lisa Rochon on the work and significance of Jane Jacobs within the context of Toronto.

In 2007, Lisa Rochon served as the professional advisor for the redevelopment of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Law, a project led by Dean Mayo Moran

• Three firms from Canada were short-listed to submit master plans for reconnecting the historic Faculty of Law to its unique site, while conceptualizing a sensitive, contemporary addition to the existing faculty.

• The competing firms are: Saucier Perrotte architectes, Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects and Hariri Pontarini Architects.

Lisa Rochon of The Globe and Mail has won a National Newspaper Award for the second straight year in Arts and Entertainment

• Lisa has won her second straight National Newspaper Award for her architectural writing (2005 & 2006)

Up North shortlisted for 2006 Edna Staebler Award

• Up North was shortlisted for the 2006 Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction, announced October 19, 2006. Administered by Wilfred Laurier University, the award supports and encourages a beginning Canadian writer publishing a work with national significance.
